Cuisinart DCC 1150 10-Cup Programmable Thermal Coffeemaker

Cuisinart DCC 1150 coffee machine has sleek and attractive thermal carafe with stainless look that blends seamlessly. That creates a classic look with modern conveniences.

This 10-cup coffeemaker is a smart addition to your countertop. It has very easy to use 24 hour programmability which ensures a fresh pot of coffee at any given time of a day, and a 1-4 cup setting to maintain the delicious coffee taste when making a smaller pot.

What we like about this coffee brewer from Cuisinart is that it allows us to use our ground coffee with the gold-tone coffee filter. We can even use tap water because the unit has charcoal water filter that purifies the water.

Weighs 8 pounds and measures 13 inches high, 9 inches in length, and 8 inches in depth. The carafe provides drip less pouring and a stay cool handle.

It makes a consistently good cup of coffee pretty quickly and the stainless steel carafe will never break. It looks great on the counter. And even though the inside is plastic you do not get that plastic taste in your coffee like other brands that overheat the water.

With a thermal carafe you can put it on the table to serve guests at your card game or when you are watching your football game on TV and it keeps it hot - try doing that with glass pot.

Our initial thoughts about Cuisinart DCC 1150 are pretty comparable as from other consumers. The unit is getting marks from average to good. That means the Cuisinart DCC1150 is just slightly above average coffee brewer.

It is a solid investment and the Cuisinart DCC 1150 will do the job of brewing to your liking. Depending on where you purchase the DCC 1150 Thermal 10-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker you may or may not have the gold tone permanent filter included with the unit.

It is attainable separately. We were surprised as the Cuisinart DCC 1150 worked flawlessly when we put it on some regular brewing tests. Because the unit comes with thermal carafe you can actually save some energy and pay smaller electrical bill because you don’t need to continuously heat the carafe. The coffee stays hot for up to 4 hours. We found that the taste of coffee stays pretty much the same even after four hours in the carafe. We did not get that spoiled taste as we sometimes get when we test different coffee machines.

Be very careful when you are buying the DCC 1150 unit. Some shops don’t sell gold tone filter with this Cuisinart DCC1150. Some does. So if you want use your ground coffee you need to buy a unit that has gold tone filter inside. Look online as there are many reputable online sellers who offer the unit with the gold tone filter.

The PROS and CONS of Cuisinart DCC 1150 coffee maker

PROS:

  • the unit is very easy to use and to set it up for the brewing
  • charcoal water filter (great if you use tap water)
  • auto brew timer (You set it up the night before and in the morning you have fresh java ready).
  • it has signal that lets you now when the coffee is ready
  • fresh coffee for up to four hours
  • eco friendly thermal carafe that saves energy because there is no need for heating the warming plate.
  • The choice of using paper and gold tone filters. The gold tone filter is very easy to clean. All you need to do is shake out the grinds into the trash, and rinse with water. This is great if you want to save some money because you don't have to buy filters!
  • When you make coffee for yourself, fill the reservoir to 2 cups, add one giant scoop of java to the filter, press the 1-4 cups button, turn the dial to brew, and press "on."
  • Use a cup and pour water into the reservoir. We don't think it's hard at all to pour water in. The triangular opening is on the right, back corner of the machine and is about 3" x 3" x 4".
  • The water level is very clearly marked and easy to see on the right side of the machine.

CONS:

  • The beep is not just one cute beep. It is 4 or 5 beeps in a row. This could be annoying to some people.
  • Some people have commented on the pouring as "difficult." I think it is the nature of a thermal carafe to require some patience when pouring into a cup. It is well sealed to keep the coffee hot, so when you pour, the liquid has to go through a maze to get out.
  • Be extra sure to close the carafe top if you set your brewer on auto brewing in the morning. You don’t want to wake up to see your java all over the counter because the carafe was clogged at the top. So make sure to rinse the top with hot water and shake it around a bit to make sure the little ball isn't stuck.
  • If your coffee machine sits in the middle of your countertop, you may have to turn it to the side in order to pour the water in.

Final thoughts

If you want a solid coffee machine for a realistic price than look no further!

Our tests have proved that the machine has some drawbacks but they don’t spoil the flavor of your coffee. We think that thermal carafe did a modes job. It maintained coffee hot for quite a long time.

We did not like handling of the machine. It could be more user friendly as the water is not so easy to refill.

But if we look overall price-performance ration, the Cuisinart DCC1150 is an average coffee brewer that will brew your coffee and is OK for the people who do not want to spent hundreds of dollars on some modern overpriced coffee brewers.
