As I travel a lot I had a chance to see and learn the Turkish coffee brewing from Bosnian Turkish coffee shops. If you ever have a chance to drink this Ottoman drink in Turkey or in Bosnia and Herzegovina than I strongly recommend you to visit once famous Olympic city of Sarajevo. There is nothing like drinking Turkish coffee at a famous Bascarsija (Baščaršija) in Sarajevo. You will remember the experience for the rest of your life.
How is Turkish coffee made?Turkish coffee is made in small or medium coffee pot called ibrik, cezve or džezva. In this pot or ibrik we boil water and add some finely ground coffee and after first boiling we also put quite a lot of sugar inside. The process of boiling water in a coffee pot involves repeatedly bringing the coffee in the ibrik just to a boil, and then removing it from the heat to let it cool down. Because the foam is the essence of Turkish coffee we must make sure, that we make enaugh of it for all the coffee drinkers.The foam is poured equally among all of those who will be drinking the coffee. You can use table spoon to evenly distribute the coffee foam, so everybody will get the rich taste of coffee. Pour out the remaining coffee evenly among all the cups. CoffeeInspector tip: You must avoid bitterness that accompanies boiled coffee. You must bring your coffee just too boiling temperature and immediately take away the heat, otherwise the coffee will spill over and you will have a mess in the kitchen and bitter coffee. When you made Turkish coffee, let it settle and cool down a bit before drinking. Because the Turkish coffee made with this method uses no filter, there will be grounds in the cup.
